The Scotch aesthetic

Our designs are grounded in an appreciation of the enduring classics. We covet these style icons, tailoring them into our own signatures. Pieces like the iconic white shirt, workwear chino, trucker jacket, a classic leather bomber or perfectly crafted parka.

Our intrepid spirit takes us around the world on the look- out for our new season twists and treasures. What we’re searching for? It could be anything. A swatch of vintage fabric, a special finish on surf gear, a Japanese souvenir jacket from the fifties, a second-hand umbrella, even a comic strip character. Being a catalyst for our curiosity is the one quality all our finds share.

They leave us wanting to unearth more – getting us greedy for information. Our favourite treasures return with us to Amsterdam (sometimes for real, often in spirit), where they form the spark and heart of our collection story. The layers and chapters unraveled by research and imagination. Eventually to be retold by each beautiful collection piece.

A brief history

Established in 1985, a trio of ambitious mavericks bought the company in 2000 and started evolving it into the unique place it owns in the fashion landscape.

Experts in their fields of creative direction, collection architecture and business; together they crafted a recognisable menswear aesthetic that garnered lots of attention and the need for a much larger design studio. We soon moved into our infamous former church along the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam.

Due to popular demand, a couple of years later we released our very first boyswear collection. Sharing a similar aesthetic with the menswear we had become known for, we named our new pint-sized line Scotch Shrunk. Maison Scotch was launched soon afterwards, when women were repeatedly spotted wearing items designed for men, and girls’ line Scotch R’belle completed the family in 2010.

That same year, Scotch & Soda founded its own denim label – Amsterdams Blauw.

The line is run by true blue denim aficionados who leave no stone unturned in their quest for the perfect dose of destruction and the most exclusive casts, washes and selvedge.

Amsterdam, Everywhere

In the past eight years, Scotch & Soda has profited from a focused growth strategy. Expanding the number of its own Scotch spaces at a steady pace. We made our debut at New York Fashion Week in 2016, and spread our Scotch aesthetic through our first major ad campaigns titled ‘From Amsterdam, From Everywhere.’.

Today, we own 251 stores in our favourite corners of the world’s buzziest cities.

The launch of our footwear range and a duo of signature perfumes in early 2019 completes the Scotch & Soda lifestyle.
