Xiao Gin
Factory Dyontex Popmode Limited, China
In my hometown Hubei I was supervisor in a restaurant, but I wanted to change my work environment and try something new. Four years ago I moved to Ningbo to work in the factory. I’m a seamstress now, I work on a top-stitching machine. What I like most about my job is that it’s really challenging. Every style is different, there is always something to learn.

Musa Yilmaz
Factory Metraco, Turkey
The small factory where I worked as a stitcher didn’t offer any possibilities to grow. Six years ago I started working here as an assistant. Now I’m responsible for a stitching line. Fabrics come in in pieces and leave the department as a full finished garment. Still, I want to increase my abilities, maybe I’ll have the chance to become a company manager one day. Gamzen is the name of my wife. When we started dating she asked me if I would have a tattoo with her name on my arm once we got married. “Of course I will,” I said.

Aysun Korvevoglu
Factory Metraco, Turkey
I work at the stitching department. I like to discover the new fabrics. Sometimes I have the honour to make a sample, which everyone will see. I love to stitch plackets, which make the clothing easy to put on. I work here for six years now. I love what I’m doing, I like stitching and the machines. I’m not going to change my job.

Basma Nguili
Factory Denim Authority, Tunisia
I heard it was very complicated, to add the back pockets to the pants. It has to be added perfectly straight. So I asked for this particular job, because it was a challenge. I feel comfortable and I’m enjoying this. In future I would like to be a team leader, to be the manager of the stitching department. I would like to do more courses to speed up the promotion.

I prefer working with the cutting machine, it’s more accurate and more efficient to work this way. Of course, I also know how to cut the fabric manually. It’s teamwork, we are well organised and there is great discipline. Twice a year we have a soccer competition. We have eight teams. I joined the special effects team. We will play the finals against the washing team. On paper we have the best players, but we have to see who wins.

I apply buttons and metallic trims. And in addition I prepare the tools. It’s always nice when there are new buttons which need special tools. I like to learn things and to get challenged.
