WEEKEND TIP

One of the best things to do in Amsterdam in the Spring is going to the park. This Sunday, it’s National Park Day in the Netherlands, which means there will be all sorts of activities in our parks. Obviously it will be good fun at all time favourites Vondelpark and Westerpark, but why not try something different?

Across the water (only a couple of minutes with the ferry from Central Station!) in Amsterdam North, the Noorderpark Festival will take place. There will be live music all day long, as well as art exhibitions and a vintage market. This will be topped off with fresh food and even fireworks at night, so it’s kind of a no-brainer whether we should go here or not.

FAVOURITE OF THE WEEK

Guys, we know denim is at its best when it’s blue but there are always exceptions to the rule. White jeans? Yes, really. Summertime calls for light and fresh items, so we picked this milky white Ralston as our new Favourite of the Week.

The Ralston is one of our classic slim fit models, available in a wide range of washes. This white wash with subtle grinding will match pretty much every colour in your wardrobe, so it’s a piece of cake to dress up. Pair with a denim shirt to create our favourite modern gentleman look or go for a cool tee. Not convinced? Then just pick another coloured Ralston, like fresh Spearmint or sweet Blossom!

ART FAIR

From today till Sunday the 3rd of June, all art lovers can indulge themselves at the KunstRAI art fair. And of course it’s also a good option for the not-so-big art lovers who want to do something cultural. The event takes place at the Rai, a big venue in Amsterdam.

Modern art from 70 different galleries will be displayed, from applied and fine arts to design and graphics. The fair promises to demonstrate the diversity and quality of the Dutch art scene, which in our opinion is indeed of great quality! They also offer free tours twice a day, so you can actually hear more about all those interesting pieces.

Visit the KunstRAI’s website for more info and tickets.

BLOGLOVING

Are you into blogs? We are, a lot. We could easily spend the entire day browsing fashion, food, lifestyle or music blogs. One of our favourites is Freunden von Freunden (which is German for ‘friends of friends’), an online interview magazine.

It portrays people from the coolest cities around the world with creative and cultural backgrounds in their own homes or working environments. It’s always great fun to peek into other people’s homes, especially of people with a specific taste. The pretty pictures are accompanied by interviews with interesting and straightforward questions, so it’s a good read as well. Have a look yourself, but be warned: this site is addictive!

ERWIN OLAF’S OWN

Oh how we have waited for this moment to come: after cancelling it last November, Dutch Photographer Erwin Olaf has finally released his book ‘Own’.

Olaf has done quite some impressive things over the years, and ‘Own’ does a great job in showing this. We all remember his Royal Blood series with the deceased princesses covered in blood, but the beautifully stylised Hope, Grief and Rain series are also amazing to flip through.

Tomorrow at 4pm, Erwin Olaf will be at Mendo Amsterdam to sign your personal copy. Our Amsterdams Blauw denim store is right next to it, so it will be a great Saturday afternoon at the Berenstraat this weekend!
