About Amsterdams Blauw

Amsterdams Blauw® is the denim collection of the Amsterdam-based fashion brand Scotch & Soda. The name Amsterdams Blauw (or: Amsterdam Blue) is the colour of paint that was used in the Golden Century between 1500-1750 to paint Dutch porcelain. The striking blue colour was obtained by mixing indigo from China and Japan with an oil-based paint. Nowadays, this colour is still widely visible in the streets of Amsterdam on house number plates and street signs.

Scotch & Soda Amsterdams Blauw® is an ambitious young denim project that draws inspiration from American and Japanese denim aesthetics. We’re constantly inspired by our great city Amsterdam, which allows us to be free in our approach to things. Amsterdams Blauw® wants to play the maverick card and be the new and fresh alternative for the denim establishment; we like to portray the collection as the challenger brand. After successfully launching the first mens denim collection for Spring/Summer 2011, Scotch & Soda now also holds Amsterdams Blauw® collections for women, boys and girls.

Inspiration

For the Spring/Summer 2012 collection, entitled ‘The Longest Breakfast’, the design team imagined how the London Shoreditch guy travels down under for a relaxing summer. Here, his accordingly dressed style mixes with the relaxed vibe of outdoor city life. For the women’s collection, the Paris fashion aesthetics will meet with the eclectic beach girl style. Both lines result in an effortlessly cool summer collection, with carefully detailed denim-based garments in extraordinary washes.

The Spring/Summer 2012 denim collection is designed for men and women who want the best out of everything, enjoying the big city life as much as the great outdoors, and fresh cutting edge design as much as breezy beach style garments. Besides bottoms, the Amsterdams Blauw® collection is topped with denim jackets, blazers, shirts, denim dresses for women and a range of accessories.

Key Fits

The Spring/Summer 2012 collection features many different silhouettes, with the slim tapered denim chino The Selby as a new key fit. Scotch also offers the Denim Chino Short: a cut-off pair of chinos done the denim way. Still at the core of the Amsterdams Blauw® collection are the best selling fits Ralston and Snatch, available in an array of fabrics and washes.

Part of the men’s line is a premium selection of denims by the name of LOT 22. This collection is specially laundered in Italy, using the most premium fabrics and washed only by hand. The Dean style continues to be the cornerstone of this collection, with innovation in fabric qualities, wash effects and hand repairs.

For women, the Constructed Chino is a new eye catcher for this season; a tapered denim chino with inserted tapes at the front. Another beautiful fit is the Marie Marine, a slim-fit double waistband pant with worker pockets and twisted side seams, perfect to be worn with rolled up hems and a pair of flip-flops.
