DESIGN FROM AMSTERDAM
Friday, February 03, 2012Whenever we go on a trip, we feel the need to buy souvenirs. Preferably the really cheesy ones, like Colosseum-shaped ashtrays and Big Ben fridge magnets. For the ones who actually want to get something nice (and maybe even useful) as a souvenir from Amsterdam, we found the perfect place.
‘Thinking of Holland’ is a souvenir shop, offering cool Dutch Design gifts. From storm umbrellas to wine-racks and jewellery – it’s all there, and not looking cheesy whatsoever. Everything’s made by Dutch design labels and designers; you can even find Dick Bruna’s Miffy! The store is located in the Passenger Terminal on Piet Heinkade 23 in Amsterdam. They also have an online shop, in case you’re not visiting Amsterdam any time soon.

HOTSPOT: SKINS AMSTERDAM
This post is for all the beauty-lovers amongst us. If you like to pamper yourself with luxurious products, we know just the perfect spot for you: Skins Cosmetics, with not only a store in Amsterdam but also in Rotterdam, Breda and Groningen.
Skins is the ultimate go-to for unique and exclusive perfumes, skincare and make-up. They import stuff from the most beautiful brands from all over the world, such as Laura Mercier, Aqua di Parma and E. Coudray. We love to go here on a Saturday, glance at all these amazing fragrances and lotions and eventually spend way more than we wanted to. And if we’re really in the mood for it, we spoil ourselves with a special beauty treatment in their salon.
You can find Skins Amsterdam in the Runstraat in the 9 Streets area, click here for more info, other addresses and their webshop.
FAVOURITE OF THE WEEK(END)
The weather is still a bit unpredictable in Amsterdam, so a practical (yet good-looking) jacket is essential. This week, we chose this stylish Maison Scotch raincoat as our Favourite of the Week.
It is the perfect throw-on-and-go jacket for the weeekend, no matter what the occasion is. Whether you’re running errands in the city, spending the day at the park or actually going on a little nautical trip. It will add a classic twist to your outfit and protect you from some accidental raindrops, while its colour matches pretty much everything. And for those of you not really into the nautical theme; check out our other Maison Scotch jackets here!
FOOD FESTIVITIES
Thanks to the national ‘Hemelvaart’ holiday tomorrow, we’ll have an extra long weekend. There are quite some nice events during this holiday, one of them ‘Het Weekend van de Rollende Keukens’ (which means ‘rolling kitchens’) at the Westergasfabriek. Dozens of mobile restaurants will gather here to create one big open-air restaurant, cooking the most delicious things for you.
Expect gastronomic pizza wagons, eccentric barbeque campers and soup carts, as well as drinks and music. What’s not to like? You can easily spend the entire weekend there, all we have to do is keep our fingers crossed for the weather!
‘Het Weekend van de Rollende Keukens’ takes place Thursday 17th – Sunday 20th from 13-23hr.
