DESIGN FROM AMSTERDAM

Whenever we go on a trip, we feel the need to buy souvenirs. Preferably the really cheesy ones, like Colosseum-shaped ashtrays and Big Ben fridge magnets. For the ones who actually want to get something nice (and maybe even useful) as a souvenir from Amsterdam, we found the perfect place.

‘Thinking of Holland’ is a souvenir shop, offering cool Dutch Design gifts. From storm umbrellas to wine-racks and jewellery – it’s all there, and not looking cheesy whatsoever.  Everything’s made by Dutch design labels and designers; you can even find Dick Bruna’s Miffy! The store is located in the Passenger Terminal on Piet Heinkade 23 in Amsterdam. They also have an online shop, in case you’re not visiting Amsterdam any time soon.

WASH OF THE WEEK: DUST TILL DAWN

The Dust till Dawn is another outstanding wash, which you can find on the Cinq P, one of our timeless favourites with a straight leg and comfy fit. The fabric has a soft hand feel and due to a hint of stretch it has a good ‘recovery’. This means it won’t loose its shape and recovers every time its gets stretched out. The fabric has a characteristic deep blue colour, by applying scraping techniques is gets even more deep, almost looking three-dimensional. The dark blue shades are easy to combine with other colours; just throw on a cool tee or fancy top and you’re good to go.

The Cinq P is one of our core styles and an essential in every collection. It has a couple of characteristic details, such as the cotton backpatch, a twisted beltloop on the back and a leather welt on the coin pocket. Also look for the all-over Dandelion print on the inside, representing the Maison Scotch logo. This pair of Amsterdams Blauw jeans is dynamic, classic and will in no time become your favourite!

What happens if you park your bike on a busy street in New York? The makers of this nice little video chained a bike to a post in the middle of Soho and made a picture of it every single day. We were quite surprised by how long the bike managed to stay there. Are people in the Big Apple not so much into (stealing) bikes as in Amsterdam? Click on the image to watch the video.

L.A. INSPIRATION

Our kid’s design team went on an inspiration trip to Los Angeles to see what’s hot and happening over there. L.A. is so much more than the glamorous Hollywood we all know. We drove around, visited flea markets and enjoyed tasty burgers at cool diners. Click on the image to see some snapshots!
